Biographical Sketch

Lisa M. Corey, Ph.D., staff toxicologist, primarily focuses on toxicology, with additional background in the areas of risk assessment and epidemiology.

Dr. Corey’s work has been concentrated on air pollution studies, particularly those involving the elderly and people with cardiovascular disease. She has presented her work at the American Thoracic Society International Conference and at the Pacific Northwest Association of Toxicologists Annual Conference. Her work involves cardiovascular effects following exposure to ambient airborne particulate matter and microarray analysis of lung and heart tissue following exposure to particulate matter. Much of her work with Intertox has involved investigation of the health and environmental issues inherent in the emerging nanotechnology field. Dr. Corey has also recently begun work on the health effects of exposure to diesel particulate matter and exhaust.

Dr. Corey has additional experience in the biotech industry as part of a biological research group. Her work focused on pharmacological efficacy testing and microbiological work. Also, she has worked in a public health and medical support position for the Puget Sound Blood Center as a blood collection specialist. This position included training staff in blood collection and interview techniques to ensure the safety of the blood supply.

Dr. Corey earned her Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of Washington’s School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, and her Master of Science degree in Toxicology from the University of Washington with a focus on environmental toxicology in June of 2004. Her thesis explored the cardiopulmonary effects of ambient particulate matter in a mouse model of cardiovascular disease looking at both genetic events and inflammatory mediators. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 1998, also from the University of Washington.
