A toxicology study is often required by a federal, state, or local regulatory agency. The Intertox team not only understands the technical issues involved but also uniquely balances the negotiation process with a firm grounding in science.
The firm’s experience includes regulatory and environmental compliance negotiation, stakeholder workshops, rule drafting, technical reports, and incentives designed to benefit the environment and businesses. The firm has been instrumental in obtaining regulatory approval of innovative approaches to risk assessment, alternative points of compliance, and alternative exposure factors on behalf of our clients.
Critical Reports
Intertox has written and coordinated numerous scientific, technical, and policy-related public comments in response to regulatory draft release documents. For example, the firm provided written response to U.S. EPA’s 2002 draft health assessment and Cal-EPA’s draft proposed public health goal for perchlorate. In another case, Intertox prepared a critical review of a state document that evaluated the potential adverse health effects of exposures to metals, dioxins, and furans in cement kiln dust. The firm prepared point-by-point comments identifying weaknesses and suggested changes that would strengthen the report.
Communication with Agencies
Intertox is qualified and experienced in preparing for and conducting negotiations with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Intertox scientists have met with and discussed technical information with key staff from several federal agencies, including discussing technical scientific issues in a manner that is clear, simple and accurate to U.S. Senators, Congressmen and White House scientists. The firm’s success in negotiating with regulatory groups is based on a clear understanding of regulations, and insight into the needs of agencies, established relationships with key personnel, and the excellent technical reputations of the firm’s staff.
